Installing the chat widget
The chat widget is the bubble your customers click to talk to Mimir. Getting it live takes two steps: add the script, then tell Mimir which pages it belongs on.
Create the channel first: Settings → Channels → Connect Channel → Chat. You'll land on the channel's Setup page.
Step 1 — add the script
On the Setup page, choose your website type.
Shopify. Nothing to install. The widget is injected automatically through our Shopify app.
Other. Copy the script tag shown on the page and add it to your site, either in the
<head>
or just before the closing
</body>
tag. It looks like this, with your own channel ID:
<script id="mimirScript" type="text/javascript" src="<https://bubble.trymimir.com/><channelId>.js" async></script>
You can add it through Google Tag Manager if that's easier than editing templates.
The channel ID is part of the filename, so there's nothing else to configure — the script knows which channel it belongs to.
Step 2 — configure your domains
In the Domain Configuration card, click Add Domain and enter your domain. Add one entry per site if you run several country domains —
.no
,
.se
,
.com
.
For each domain you can pick exactly which pages show the bubble, using the sitemap tree, and set how the region is determined:
Shopify Country — the region follows Shopify's own country detection. Recommended on Shopify sites.
Default Region — always use one region.
Custom (Manual) — you set it yourself in code:
window.dispatchEvent(new CustomEvent('mimir:region-change', { detail: { region: 'no' } })); // Or set the region directly window.mimirRegion = 'no';
👉 Configure at least one domain. If Mimir doesn't recognise the site the widget is loading on, it won't load.
Opening the chat from your own buttons
The widget listens for a few events, so you can drive it from your own interface:
// Open the chat window.dispatchEvent(new Event('mimir:open')); // Open it with a question already filled in window.dispatchEvent(new CustomEvent('mimir:start-conversation', { detail: 'Do you deliver to Svalbard?', })); // Close it, or start a fresh conversation window.dispatchEvent(new Event('mimir:close')); window.dispatchEvent(new Event('mimir:new-chat'));
There's also a link form: adding
?mimir_chat_start_message=...
to any URL opens the chat with that message and then removes the parameter from the address bar. Useful for campaign links and support emails.
Making it look like your site
Three pages sit alongside Setup:
Appearance — theme, primary colour, roundness, fonts, launcher position and size, background, and fine-grained colour control if you need it.
Text — every customer-facing phrase, per region: the greeting, example questions, the rating screen, live-chat queue messages, the privacy notice.
Popup — proactive messages, including different messages for category pages or for URLs matching a pattern.
The widget renders in an isolated container, so your site's CSS can't affect it and it can't affect your site.
