Connecting an email channel
Mimir can work your support inbox in one of two ways. Which you choose affects how outgoing mail is sent and how much DNS setup you need.
Go to Settings → Channels → Connect Channel and pick Email. You're then asked: How should Mimir connect to this email?
Connect inbox — recommended
Mimir signs in to your existing email account. You're sent to a normal sign-in screen for your provider — Gmail, Outlook, or another account — and you authorise access there.
Why this is the recommended option:
All incoming emails will show up in Mimir, using email forwarding can lead to some emails not showing up in Mimir due to being caught in your email provider’s spam filter.
Deliverability uses your existing, already-trusted email setup. No DNS records to add.
Setup takes a minute.
Connecting inbox does not work if the email address is a shared inbox.
Reconnecting. If you change your password or your provider expires the connection, the channel shows Inbox disconnected and a warning appears next to it in the sidebar. Click Reconnect inbox. You must sign in with the same address — signing in with a different one is rejected.
Forward email
Mimir gives you a dedicated address and you forward your incoming mail to it.
After creating the channel you'll see an Inbound Email card with the address to forward to, and a copy button. Set up forwarding at your mail provider, and mail starts arriving in Mimir — usually within 5–10 minutes.
Because outgoing mail doesn't go through your own mail server in this setup, you have to prove Mimir is allowed to send as you. The DNS Setup card walks through it:
DKIM — a TXT record
Return-Path — a CNAME record
SPF — a TXT record
Each record shows its type, host and value, with a copy button and a Check DNS action. The card shows Fully Verified once everything is in place.
You'll also get a confirmation email at the address you entered, which has to be clicked. Sending is only enabled once both that confirmation and DKIM verification are done — if one is missing, mail won't go out. Resend verification re-sends the confirmation mail.
DNS changes typically take 5–60 minutes to propagate, and occasionally up to 48 hours.
Which to choose
Use Connect inbox unless something prevents it. It's more reliable, needs no DNS work, and keeps your sent mail where you expect it.
Additional addresses
If several addresses reach the same inbox — an old address, an alias — list them under Additional addresses on the channel. Mimir then knows they're you, and won't add them as recipients when replying.
